My son is a railfan, to put things mildly. I’ve thought for awhile about creating a custom livery for him, but hadn’t gotten around to it. Well, the other day I sketched out a concept and fired up Inkscape. After a few tweaks here and there, I finally had a logo/livery he liked.

I also built a brand sheet for his railroad, something I really haven’t done except a little tinkering for Data Monkey Designs. For the brand sheet, I re-used some of the early concepts for “heritage” logos for the railroad. Most rail company logos have evolved over time, so thought it was fitting.
I shared the logo with friends and family, all who liked the idea. The son of one friend liked it as well, so I created a rail logo for him as well.
Overall, this was a fun project for me, and for my son. I also worked on some signage for a fictional rail yard for his company as well, and I’m looking at getting a real sign made for him.
